Our pay it forward, C5BDI giveback continues! Our team recently committed resources and funding to support the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore – Member of #FeedingAmerica #FederationofVirginiaFoodbanks. Thank you very much to Tina Bove from our team for recommending such an outstanding cause. Leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our community since 1981, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia has distributed over 360 million pounds of food equating to over 300 million meals throughout our 4,745-square-mile service area. Put another way, this equates to 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 kids – #SimplyAmazing!!
The Foodbank distributes food to our community through Partner Agencies and program sites. The Food comes from three primary sources: 83% donated; 10% USDA; 7% Purchased. For every $10 donated to the Foodbank, they can provide up to $60 worth of grocery products. During Fiscal Year 2019-2020, the Foodbank distributed over 15 million meals!!
Highlights: COVID-19 – a year later:
• 16,705,575 pounds of food distributed
• 216,750 BackPack meals and 49,863 Kids Cafe meals and snacks distributed
• 2,015,548 pounds of fresh produce provided
• 5,000 (approximately) households served weekly via Mobile Pantry distributions
